Director of Professional Practice Appointed

We are pleased to announce that Sandy Nickel, R.SLP, has accepted the position of Director of Professional Practice, effective April 10, 2017.

Sandy comes to ACSLPA from Alberta Health Services (AHS) where she most recently served in administrative roles including the Manager of Clinical Support Systems and as an Operations Manager in Public Health, both in the Edmonton zone. During her tenure at AHS she was also seconded to Alberta Health (Government of Alberta) where she served as Manager of Child and Youth Health. In that role, she liaised with a variety of health organizations and participated in cross-ministerial working groups and committees. She also has clinical experience as an SLP in both public and private settings, and as an SLP team leader, including the implementation of TeleSLP programs.

Many of you may recognize Sandy’s name from her previous role with ACSLPA (2003–2006) when she served as Executive Director – Member Services. More recently, she has served in a volunteer capacity as a member of ACSLPA’s Competence Committee.

As a new Director of Professional Practice, Sandy’s main responsibility will be to support our members in their professional practice. Some of her main duties will include responding to member and public enquiries and concerns related to professional practice issues, providing outreach to key stakeholders, overseeing the Continuing Competence Program, participating as staff representative to the Pan-Canadian Alliance of Speech-Language and Audiology Organizations, and supporting the delivery of engaging professional development opportunities for our members which includes the annual conference.

With her strong clinical and administrative background and linkages with relevant stakeholders across the province, not to mention her energy and enthusiasm, we are looking forward to expanding ACSLPA’s capacity to serve members and the public.

Please join us in welcoming Sandy to her new position!
