Orofacial Rest Posture Program (ORPP) Screening and Preliminary Intervention for Pediatric SLPs

The ORPP Screening and Preliminary Intervention for Pediatric SLPs course is a one-day course aimed at highlighting the key link between orofacial myofunctional disorders [OMDs] and articulation.

Target Audience: School and preschool-based speech language pathologists.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this one-day course attendees will be able to:

  • Define, screen and identify children with orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) including poor oral rest posture and tongue thrust swallowing.
  • Determine appropriate early intervention to help minimize the impact of the OMD on both speech articulation and dental development.
  • Develop and implement a preliminary ORPP treatment program for clients with OMDs.
  • Define, understand and use common dental terminology relating to OMDs including oral rest posture, freeway space and tongue thrust swallow patterns.
  • Understand how poor oral rest posture impacts a child’s prognosis for speech articulation therapy.
